Yoga Therapy

A practice tailored to your unique needs.

“For the past three years, I have been attending 3 yoga classes weekly, taught by Leslie Salmon. The benefits I received from her classes are immeasurable, especially as I prepared for my total knee replacement.

It was hard to imagine how I would be able to return to my yoga practice.

I knew early on that my focus would be to transition from physical therapy to yoga therapy. My surgeon concurred that getting into a yoga therapy program would be very beneficial.

After my surgery in July 2022, my physical therapist worked with me on exercises specific to strengthen the muscles in my left leg. But when I began yoga therapy with Leslie, she applied yoga techniques to my full body. I was constantly engaged and ready to learn more.

Leslie is amazing to work with and, in her studio, she has an excellent environment. The one-on-one attention from Leslie was warm, open, and enthusiastic. She delivered the content clearly, organized, and easy for me to follow at home on my own.”

North County Yoga Therapy is a small business owned by me - Leslie Salmon - and is an adjunct therapy to traditional Western medical practices.

Throughout my years of work as a Certified Yoga Therapist and Yoga Teacher, I’ve found the tools of Yoga offer calm where there is anxiety; stability where there is doubt or challenge; strength where there is vulnerability.

The accredited Yoga Therapy program I attended and completed was at Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles. The program included 800 hours of in-depth lecture, demonstrations and practical application through client interaction. This training, completed in 2020, is added to 25 years of yoga experience (practice, workshops, trainings, mentorships, teaching).

Unlike a yoga class or individual yoga session, Yoga Therapy sessions delve deeper and offer you tools to improve strength, flexibility, agility, posture, balance, focus/mindfulness, circulation, respiration, digestion.

My goal will be to partner with you on your journey towards wellness and an improved quality of life.

In Yoga Therapy sessions, you will receive the following:

  • Complimentary Assessment - an opportunity to meet me, discuss Yoga Therapy’s methods and make plans for your self-care future.

  • In-Depth Assessment - together we will discuss:

    • your goals for our sessions together,

    • your medical history - diagnosis / medications / treatment,

    • your lifestyle (diet and exercise),

    • past and current injuries and/or chronic conditions, and

    • the impact your current and past history is having on your activity level.

  • During this assessment, we will:

    • consider appropriate movement, modifications, use of props, as well as breath work & a mindful approach to your life experience;

    • you will receive detailed ‘homework’ (things to do at home in service of your goal(s)) from me; and

    • you are invited to contact me between visits to ask questions, offer feedback, as needed.

  • Follow-Up Visits, which will include time to:

    • evaluate progress toward your goal(s),

    • review, revise, add to movement plans, as needed, and

    • discuss concerns and questions, if any.

Within us all is a strength and level of resilience waiting to be uncovered. It is my goal to help you reveal and embrace this inner power.

Use of Props

Your session may include the use of a variety of yoga props. A yoga trestle (pictured left) is like a wooden horse, and is used to support balance and improve stability in our standing balance poses.

Other props such as blocks, blankets, straps, and foam rollers (pictured left) may be used to add support, adjust your positioning, massage fascia, and provide a more comfortable experience.

The ‘trestle’ is a wonderful tool for stretching shoulders and legs, as well as offering support for movement without the worry of balance issues.

Props such as blankets, straps, blocks, and ___ may be used to give students a deeper, more refined experience of a pose.

Props such as blankets, straps, blocks, and foam rollers may be used to give you a deeper, more refined experience of a pose or movement. A prop helps your body create an imprint.
