What is Yoga?

Yoga is a total mind-body-breath movement practice that combines mindful strengthening and stretching with the breath, meditation and relaxation. All of this is done through asana (poses), pranayama (breath/energy work), and meditation - with the goal to engage muscles, build resilience, offer moments of peaceful contemplation. It is truly a practice moving us towards wellness.

There are more than 100 different styles of yoga. Some are fast-paced and intense; others are gentle and relaxing.

Leslie is a Certified Anusara Yoga Teacher and Yoga Therapist. Anusara is a form of Hatha Yoga (hatha is a Sanskrit word, one of its meaning is ‘sun/moon’, it is also a powerful style, combining movement with the breath). An emphasis on alignment in yoga poses, added to Leslie’s years of experience observing students, will accommodate different body types and those struggling with injuries and/or chronic conditions.

Each pose is a journey and our own work of art — we move into a pose, enjoy the pose for several breaths, then exit; hopefully with as much grace as we entered.

I really enjoyed my yoga therapy sessions with you.  I appreciate your openness and honesty during instruction.  You helped me to feel more confident and I think that I have a better understanding of yoga positions and movement from working with you. I am more able to do yoga independently at home, and that was my goal. — MK
